2014 Beach Week!

We had a great week-long vacation in Sandbridge this year.  We waited a little to the last minute to get a place but ended up finding a nice condo on the beach with some nice pools... ideal for this life phase of little kiddos w/ naptimes and lukewarm acceptance of the ocean.  Grandma and Grandpa joined us the first few days and then the Rowlands came for the rest of the week.

Just like everywhere we travel, Charlie LOVES staying somewhere new and doesn't want to leave the house.  This was no different.  At least we had baby naptimes to spend there...

We did a lot of this during naptime.  Always w/ a snack

Fun w/ pool rings

These make great bracelets!

Getting ready for the pool

Unloading drawers just like at home

These faces say "trouble"

Also makes a nice bracelet

Playing peek-a-boo under the foosball table

More Monopoly... this time Virginia-opoly

The pools there were great! Charlie took a week of swimming lessons before we went and finally began swimming on his own!  We went to the pool 2x every day and at first he would be timid about doing it but after awhile he'd be swimming on his own across the pool... even jumping in and swimming to us and diving for rings.

Chilling at the pool

There was even a turtle there!
Bracelets work in the kiddie pool too

Everyone looks so thrilled!

Charlie caught his first fish!!!  He, James and Grandpa found a little area to fish and got Charlie his first real fishing pole.  I guess it worked!

Leo hung out a few times while he was staying at his grandma and grandpa's in Va Beach...

After dinner one night, we caught some nice light near the sound...

Trying to hold his sister's hand because she was charging too fast towards the waters.  Charlie is becoming very protective these days.

Charlie and I had a nice date day getting a haircut and shopping at Target!  Doesn't sound awesome but we get little alone time these days so it was awesome.

Extreme close-up!

We went to the ocean of course everyday too.  The haul to ocean is always a drag with all of the things required with the little people... chairs, toys, umbrella, toys, snacks, toys, towels, lotions, toys, etc.  James is a master at lugging it all... I don't envy that job!  While we go to the beach multiple times a year, Charlie is always hit or miss w/ his enjoyment of it.  This time he was very happy to play in the sand but didn't want to get in the water.  At his own pace though he eventually did and had fun "jumping" over the waves.  For Kerrington on the other hand this was her first beach trip since being an itty bitty baby.  In classic laid-back 2nd child style, she loved it!  She would bee-line for the ocean every time we went so we had to be on high alert.  I spend most of our time at the ocean at the shoreline attempted to stop her from going so deep that the water would go over her head.  She loved having the waves splash up on her.  I only took my phone one day for pics but captured several...

Loves being sandy!

Digging a big hole

That big hole was for Daddy!

Charlie trying to pose for a picture.  K not participating

Talented 16-month-old ;)

Kerrington had her first messy spaghetti and popsicle one night at dinner.  I, of course, documented the experience...

 Somebody needs a bath!

On Friday before we left, Hurricane Sandy gave us a little scare.  It was a non-event after a lot of hype.  We had some overnight and morning rain and then a windy morning.  But by noon we were back at the pool and went to be beach later (though we didn't let James go swimming to far in).

Hurricane selfie!

A better shot.  These are from the peir where the winds were strong in the morning.

Later that day we had a nice final dinner out with the Rowlands and then walked over to the beach for family pics.  We actually got a pretty nice one of the four of us.  Yea!
