Baptism Fun

Today we had Charlie baptized at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart down by VCU.  Grandpa and Granny Lane, Aunt Allison (his Godmother!) and Uncle Phil and friends Dave (the Godfather!) and April all came up from North Carolina to celebrate with us. Grandma Grover threw her back out this week so the other side of the family wasn't able to make the drive from Atlanta but they were there in spirit :)  The church only does baptisms once a quarter so the mass was centered about the event with six kids getting baptized.  We got to parade in at the beginning (and he was announced as the son of "Dr. and Mrs. Lane" for the first time... that was cool!) and stood up in front of the congregation for a blessing.  Then we headed to our seats to await the actual baptism after the homily.  In our seats, Charlie was good but unbelievably chatty!  I guess it was the same frequency and volume as usual but in front of a hundred people trying to hear a sermon, it seemed much louder to me :)  Luckily the church is very kid-friendly so other kids were noisy too and people were generally smiling at us.  We then headed to the back of the church for the big event!  Charlie was the first to go and didn't seem to mind the water poured on his head at all.  He wore a third-generation gown worn by James and his siblings as well as his mom and her siblings.  It was very "pretty" and it was fun seeing what he would look like as a little girl... very pretty with his big blue eyes and curls :)

Waiting at the baptismal font

Woo hoo, our turn! Charlie really wanted to flip upside-down to look at the font!

After the service, we had lunch at our place.  It was a busy week with James out of town so a Saturday Costco run was the best I could do :)  I bought a pre-made round white cake but decorated it myself with some help from April Saturday night.  I thought it turned out pretty well and matched our flowers.  After a nap, Charlie even got a few presents from everyone!

Looking pretty one last time

Charlie's fancy cake... for some reason it makes me giggle... it is just so obviously "home-made" :)

One final hug from Granny and Grandpa

And a final kiss
